How long does it take for my IT'S Mushroom kit to arrive? Each bag is cultured specifically for the consumer. Please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery, as we cultivate everything fresh.
-
What is the shelf life? How should I store it before use?IT'S Mushroom kit is a living organism, so we recommend activating it upon arrival. If you need to wait, you can store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight or in the fridge for around 2-3 months. Some species may even start fruiting in the bag if stored for a few weeks.
-
Should I take the block out of the bag?No, the block should stay in the bag (and inside the box) while they grow. After removing the front panel of the box, cut an X into the exposed plastic to provide oxygen and direct mushroom growth. Leave the plastic flaps of the X on the bag to retain moisture.
-
How often (and how much) should I water my kit?Aim for 5-10 sprays each time. Adjust the frequency and amount based on the block's moisture level. Using a humidity tent can help maintain proper humidity levels.
-
Is my grow kit the correct species?Your kit was inoculated with a selected mushroom culture in a sterile environment. If you're uncertain, take a photo of what's growing from your kit and email it to us for confirmation. Kindly include a photo of the front of your kit. In the event of human error, we want to make it right for you.
-
What is the white stuff? Is my kit growing mold? The white substance is likely mycelium, not mold. It's a normal and healthy part of your mushroom block. If you see black, green, or orange patches, it may be moldy, and you should contact us with a photo.
-
My block has cracks, looks dry, or seems off.Troubleshoot any issues by gently pressing the block back together if it's broken. Ensure it's moist, and use a humidity tent if necessary. For dry blocks, consider soaking in water and keeping it moist.
-
Why is my new kit already growing mushrooms? This is normal, and it means you have a vigorous kit. Break off easily accessible mushrooms to start fresh if needed.
-
Why do my mushrooms look weird?Caps may appear strange if there's insufficient oxygen or moisture. Ensure proper airflow and humidity. Different species have unique growth patterns. Caps that are pale likely need more natural light. Avoid keeping your kit in dark places like closets or cabinets. Ambient sunlight helps them develop rich hues.
-
What are the amber colored beads growing on my kit? These are mycelial exudate, a natural byproduct of the mycelium's metabolic process. It's harmless.
-
Why did my kit start (then stop) growing?Insufficient humidity can cause pins to stop growing. Remove dried-up pins, wait a week, then soak the block and continue misting.
-
When should I harvest my mushrooms?Harvest before caps flatten or become concave. For lion's mane, harvest before yellowing. Unlike plants, mushrooms grow incredibly fast, sometimes doubling in size each day. Be sure to keep a close eye on your kit so you don't miss the opportune time to harvest!
-
How do I harvest my mushrooms?Hold the cluster near the base and twist or use a knife. Clean off loose bits and sawdust before cooking.
-
Do I need to cook my mushrooms?Yes, always cook mushrooms thoroughly to break down chitin, which can be difficult to digest. It readily breaks down with heat, so cooking mushrooms makes them easier on our bodies.
-
What do you mean by fruiting and flush?Fruiting refers to mushrooms' reproductive stage. A flush is the production of multiple mushroom fruit bodies simultaneously.
-
How many flushes will one kit produce? You're guaranteed one fruiting, but with care, you can get multiple flushes. Expect yield variations based on species and care.
-
How do I get a second flush of mushrooms from my kit? After the first harvest, continue spraying daily and maintain humidity. Soak if needed. You can often get additional flushes with patience.
-
Help! My kit has gnats?Identify and treat the source of gnats in your home. Create a gnat repellent mixture to spray on the outside of your kits. Sticky traps or plug-in gnat traps can also be useful. Note do not spray directly on to the mushrooms.
